Groups

The idea of establishing working groups on specific themes is to create more effective platforms for debate and discussion amongst AESOP Members.
At this moment AESOP has two institutional groups

and seven Thematic Groups

THEMATIC GROUPS

PLANNING AND COMPLEXITY

NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN PLANNING

PLANNING LAW AND PROPERTY RIGHTS

TRANSNATIONAL AND CROSS-BORDER PLANNING

URBAN DESIGN IN PLANNING TRANSPORT PLANNING AND POLICY: EUROPEAN EXPERIENCES

RESILIENCE AND RISKS MITIGATION STRATEGIES

If you have any suggestion for the creation of another group, if you have a network already established that you want to bring to our attention, feel free to do so by contacting Roelof Verhage.

You can find out more reading the entry-guidelines below

New Thematic Groups: set up rules

If you are thinking of constituting a new Thematic Group, and would like to send us a proposal, make sure you specify the following information:

  • What is the group aiming to do
  • Who could join and how could they contribute
  • What topics will it be discussing, and in what format
  • What type of work/debate are you expecting to generate?
  • What support will you need from AESOP and the Communication Team?
  • Who would manage and head the group?

Once this information is available, the Communication Team will help you setting up a Website, like the Young Academic's.

AESOP YOUNG ACADEMICS

Since the AESOP Congress in Volos, 2002, a start-up group of young academics works at the establishment of a network of young academics in planning. The official launch of the network took place at the 2003 AESOP-ACSP Congress in Leuven.

COMMUNICATION TEAM

The Communication Team was set up in March 2003 to support the role of AESOP's as a network organisation. Through its activities, we intend to provide information and contacts on members and institutions; to promote and advertise activities and current developments in the planning field; to encourage communication and discussion within and outwith AESOP.

PRESENT
Since our constitution, we have tried to deliver a number of tangible initiatives, on the belief that an efficient communication strategy can reinforce the role that AESOP plays in planning.
In particular, we have been busy setting up the AESOP Website, the Young Academics Website, producing the first edition of the AESOP Yearbook, and reinventing our corporate identity.

FUTURE
We are planning many more initiatives: encourage the constitution of Thematic Networks to produce new knowledge in the planning field; become a source of reference for those looking for employment opportunities; promote best research in planning, through Prizes and databases.

If you want to know more about the Team, its members and its projects, do not hesitate to contact us.
